Kalwakurthy Grampanchayat is upgraded as Nagarapanchayat as GO Ms No. 105, Dt: 22.03.2013, it is an ancient town and it was under the rule of Nizam of Hyderabad, and at the time of Re-Organization of the State in the year 1956, Kalwakurthy town was included in Mahabubnagar district in AndhraPradesh. The extent of area of Kalwakurthy Nagarapanchayat is 14.50 Sq.Km , the population of the town as per 2001 census is 25146, and as per 2011 Census is 28110 now its population as 29000 and also there is a floating population of approximately 2,500 daily from the surrounding mandals and Villages. Recently ward division revision accordingly it has consisting 20 Election wards.

Kalwakurthy is a Nagarapanchayat and mandal in Mahabubnagar district in the Indian state of Telangana. Kalwakurthy town is 81 km from Hyderabad, Capital City in Telangana State through Bus route. It is well connected with other neighbouring towns like Mahabubnagar (60 km), Achampet (58 km), Nagarkurnool (36 km) and Kollapur (65 km).
